Our dedicated vision is to provide visually impaired school children in remote areas in developing countries access to appropriate education.
After setting up and training local eye care teams eye examinations will be provided to each child on site at school for the first time in their life and – where needed – they receive to their individual need fitted pop-in glasses straight away; those children who cannot be helped directly with pop-in glasses - due to a particular visual defect - will be helped with prescription glasses later. All frames and lenses are designed to be robust and almost unbreakable. Imagine the emotion a child will experience at that precious moment seeing the world clear for the first time – breathtaking! And it is so easy to achieve.
We will start the project with UWS in Nepal with 72 UWS owned schools and then extending to UWS related schools in Nepal. All together we can reach more than 600 schools across Koshi province, Lumnini and Gandaki provinces, where UWS has their operations. Further UWS Nepal is in the process of expanding to the far west of Nepal where we can reach another 500 schools. This makes 1.100 schools and about 230.000 children in Nepal getting access to eye caring and those who need glasses-support to proper education for the first time.
Later – after being successful in Nepal - we will extend the eye care project to UWS schools in Cambodia, Myanmar and Madagascar.
Due to the fact that UWS regularly visits all UWS-schools and takes care for the quality of education on site it will be efficient and cost saving to implement the eye care project on site by joining them. It is part of the project, that UWS sets up its own eye care professional teams with locals to be independent and not being reliable to others.
